Window Covering Child Safety

Young children can become entangled in accessible window-covering cords. Choose cordless products wherever possible and review every window from a child’s reach.

Make the window area safer

Prefer cordless window coverings in homes where children live or visit.
Keep all pull cords, loops and bead chains inaccessible.
Fit continuous-loop tension devices securely to the wall or floor as instructed.
Move cribs, beds, chairs, toy boxes and climbable furniture away from windows and cords.
Do not tie cords together or create a new loop.

Hardware
Secure poles, tracks and brackets so pulling cannot dislodge them.

Tiebacks
Avoid long looped accessories within reach.

Inspection
Recheck anchors, cords and furniture placement regularly.

Older products
Replace unsafe corded coverings where possible.

UK safety resource: follow current Office for Product Safety and Standards blind-cord guidance. Fit supplied tensioners, tidies or cleats correctly, keep cords inaccessible and move cots, beds, highchairs and climbable furniture away from windows. For a cleat, the UK guidance recommends positioning it on an adjacent surface at least 1.5 metres from the floor.
